| I will be in the Houston/Galveston area in late November and would like to visit some nurseries with tropical plants - Aroids, orchids, etc. Does anyone have suggestions for places I should visit?
Thanks! Zach |

| For tropicals: Teas Nursery is now closed :( Another-Place-in-time and Joshua's are probably the best in town. Buchanan's is nearby, good nursery but few tropicals. Not far away: Caldwell in Rosenburg ~ 30min south is very good. Yucca-do Nursery in Hempstead ~ 40min WNW is a world class nursery; primarily mail order, sorta small, specialized niche market of plants for their climate zone. See website. Execllent, private, botanical garden adjacent, Peckerwood. A few top resident collectors. Gardens at Cockerell Butterfly Center and Moody Gardens both quite good. No "real" public botanic garden. Though Houston Arboretum, near Intercontental Airport has a respectable collection of tropicals which are dug up and moved into greenhouses in the winter. Semi-tropicals are left in ground. |
