Alocasia Macrorrhiza

I have a potted Alocasia Macrorrhiza that is about six years old. It started out as a baby plant, and now it is five huge plants that are over eight feet tall. Each winter I bring the whole plant into my garage that has a south facing window. Then, in March I bring it outside. It has worked great until now; as long as the plant does not freeze to the ground and I can keep it from going dormant, the next year the plant will get even BIGGER. The problem is now it is so big that that I can not move it without getting a hernia. So, I am looking into dividing the plants and potting them in a few containers. Does anyone on this board know about what I need to do so that I do not have any rot issues? Any helpful tips on dividing these plants and I would be grateful.
