I think it is called Chaenomeles.

AKA Quince.
Their blooms are always welcome early in the year, the only time they look good in my opinion .
The leaves have poor Fall color and the branching pattern is nothing to brag about in the winter. Older plants are very difficult to dig up.
I enjoy them only when blooming in other people's gardens.
