Bitter melon won't grow

I have been trying to get seeds to grow with no luck.

I cracked the outer shell and left them in the sun to warm the soil.

The last attempt i checked after they were in soil for 1.5 weeks- still no sign of life.

Do i have duds being they are 2 years old or what am i missing?

I have sokaed the seeds for a day and then planted in jiffy pot. I have seen them sprouting in a weeks time.
