I haven't figured out exactly what sort of lily it is. But the impression I've gotten is that it's a water lily of some sort, which has deterred me from experimenting with growing them.

You purchased a Lilium bulb used for cooking. It is delicious stir-fried and is used like water chestnuts. In China, wild collected bulbs of Lilium davidii are used or farmed. I had another colleague say that the bulbs sold for cooking are hybrids (most likely of the Asiatic class of lilies)

If it still look fresh, I'd try and pot it up to see if it grows and flowers. But after processing, I'm afraid they might not be viable.

We have been buying lilly bulb in plastic refrigerated bags from Ranch 99 for years for food and planting. They grow rather easily and have a typical orange Lilium flower which look very much to photos of Llium browni.

The bulb are very susceptible to have holes from insect, worm near harvest time. Any suggestion to stop this?

So I finally got around to purchasing a package this spring and I potted up the bulbs to see what I would get.

very nice!!!!! Mine has never flowered, but I am somewhat relieved that the foliage on yours is kinda spindly also!!!!! I was thinking I'd done something wrong. I guess it's just the type that it is! Yours is obviously happy, and my foliage looks similar to that!
Congrats on getting it to bloom-- the flower is beautiful!

I have the same type of flowers blooming from my potted bulbs. But I am more interested in harvesting the bulbs. Will wait to see the result...
