I've spent time searching for growing zone informtion for your area. I've found that the average minimum temp is 74 F and 82 F for the max. I only see US growing zones mapped online. Highest is zone 11 which is for a minimum of 40 F. Huge difference. I'm not sure if that helps at all. Hi Putri, I like Asian styled gardens, and have some Japanese maples, ferns in my yard. I used to live in Asia, but didn't garden then. I'm in Wisconsin in the US, and can grow many annual and some perennial herbs.

Hi putri, i'm writing from Bandung, Indonesia. It is way colder here than Jakarta, and I grow almost every herbs I can find. Basil, lemon basil, lemon grass, rosemary, dill, oregano, mint, celery, coriander, curly parsley and green onion, all doing very well here. I'm just getting started with chives, marjoram, thyme, italian parsley, and sage, so far so good.

For cilantro, try Mexican Culantro (Eryngium foetidum L., Apiaceae) and Vietnamese Cilantro (Polygonum odoratum) varieties.

Could one of you possibly tell me what kind of soil lemongrass likes to grow in?

putri, try bayleaf. It will thrive in hot climates. The regular cilantro will not do well in climates hotter than zone 11.

eibren - lemon grass can grow in regular garden soil which is amended with compost.

Lemongrass likes hot climate. I have grow them successfully in No. Ca for 10+ yrs. I have clay soil. They can withstand drought. The more water you give them, the better they will grow. I didn't amend my soil, just the regular clay soil.

For growing herbs in asia, you should be able to grow many of the tropical herbs from that region like basil, lemon grass, Chinese chives, green onions and cilantro. Do they have farmers market there? Visit your local farmer market and see what herbs are for sale. Look and ask around your neighbors and farmer's market seller. They would be your best source for that region.
