Okay I live in western australia just out of perth, and I am most interested to be able to get hold of some of the corms... Nobody here seems to know anything about it either through permaculture or water lilly outlets. Can anyone help me.. Can they be sent interstate or are they an item banned by w.a. agriculture.. thanks for all help.

RE: chinese water chesnuts growing in small ponds.

Bettyhrelfo -- Here in the US, they can sometimes be purchased from pond plant suppliers, etc., but are often costly that way. I have grown them quite a few times as a summer ornamental in my water gardens (my season is too short and climate too cool to get them to produce corms, so I just enjoy the foliage).

But, I simply buy the corms at the local produce market. They seem to be quite widely available as fresh, raw, live corms in grocery stores and produce markets here. Could the same be true in W.A. ??? I would check Asian markets in particular. They grow easily from the corms, but you MUST plant them right away, as the corms are pretty perishable and tend to mold rapidly if not planted.
