I want to plant some kabocha squash this year. When is the best time to do it, in GA? I am having trouble finding local retailers that sell seeds or seedlings, any suggestions?

Hi, I have Kabocha seeds. What do you have to trade? Tony

For sources, I would recommend Evergreen Y. H. & Baker Creek; both carry a wide selection of Asian squashes. I'm waaaay too far north to advise you on planting times; but I plant mine on or near my average date of last frost. Since the seeds take from 7-14 days to germinate, by then the soil has warmed & the threat of frost is past. You can also start them early in peat pots, 2-3 weeks before the average last frost; but try to get them in the ground before they have their second true leaf.

I grew mine from seed saved from a gigantor kabocha we ate. I didn't plant until...May? June? I got about 6 or so fruits...3 of them coming in October/November... sorry I can't advise on GA, though...

Hi you can sow kabocha seed now. Any time after danger of hard frost is gone. soak seeds in water for a day or two. If yoy can find Kuri cabocha, try it. It has nice texture and sweet. yama
