Growing curry leaf in IL

Hi everyone,
I just moved to IL from CA and my parents gave me a curry leaf plant. It's about a foot and tall. I don't know what to do with it. I have been watering it about once a week with just cold tap water. Recently some leafs on one side of the plant have dried up and sprigs fall off sometimes. Since it's winter here I keep it in the kitchen. During the day I let it follow the sunshine and by evening I keep it in a corner. I started cutting some dried branches today near the growth node. I don't know if I'm doing it right. Can anyone give me specific instructions like how much to water, when to water, what kind of water, what kind of food is the best and whatever else is important to keep it healthy? I read the past posts and after reading I have so many things running around my head, i'm kind of confused. Please can anyone help me?
Thank you.

If it's indoors, don't overwater it or you'll kill it. If your soil is good, then once a week should be more than enough but use lukewarm water instead. This is a tropical plant and plants don't like cold showers any more than humans do. When it's cooler than the temp the plant prefers, they tend to go into dormant stages much like trees do, so they require less water.

You may also consider using a grow light. They are very inexpensive, all you need is a grow light lightbulb and a clamp on lamp fixture. You can get both for under $10.00. This will keep the area around the plant warm and provide additiona light.

You can use storebought fertilizer for vegetables or add one inch of compost on top of the soil in the pot which would be preferable.
