What plants for zone6-7?

Hello all, Opinions wanted please!
This year I'd like to add asian foods to my repertoire. Please suggest to me which basic plants I should grow. I have full sun where I could do them in raised beds or containers. I also have a breezeway which gets morning and evening sun (containers only).
Thanks.

RE: What plants for zone6-7?

You are in a nearly perfect zone to grow ANY asian veggie you want to try. My favorites are Mizuna - which can be eaten raw in salads or cooked in mixed sautes or stirfries; any of the bok choys - although I prefer the shorter "baby" types as opposed to the tall ones you find in the supermarket. Look for any type that touts itself as a "baby" bokchoy. "Chinese Broccoli" is also nice. You can easily grow any variety of snow pea where you are so long as you start early enough - but do plan on picking, blanching, & freezing those that you can't use right away. No sense in wasting them, & their season is short & furiious - lol. And you can plant them again in mid-late summer for a brief fall harvest as well.

If you like Szechuan or Thai cooking, you may want to look into planting a couple of hot pepper plants in your garden. Start them right now from seed & you can be putting transplants in your garden around the first of May. By the end of summer you should have a nice crop of hot peppers to use fresh, dry, & freeze for winter use (I freeze mine).

That's all I can come up with now - but if I come with any others, I'll post them for you.
