Are the flowers edible, too?

Yes, the flowers are edible but as with most vegetables, they are less tough when young.

Thanks. I often use flowers in salads and while I was reading a lot about the edible plant no one mentioned the flowers. I presume like most morning glories the seeds are...toxic,

No problem. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Do you have a favorite recipe or two you'd like to share?

Is this the plant that might be called "Kan-kung"? My wife is Indonesian and wants me to grow this for her. She brought me home a bunch from the Asian market. I looked at it and, to me, it appeared to be an Ipomia. She said that at home (in Java), it was a nearly an aquatic. Is there another common name and, is there anywhere to buy some seed? Thanks!

Hi timh,

Yes. Proper spelling is Ipomoea as in the title of this thread. There are plenty of existing threads which will answer your questions if you do a search of this forum. Also be sure to read the FAQ for this form for info.

Here is a link that might be useful: Ipomoa Aquatica

This is correct. It is sometimes sold in the states as a pond plant. In southern states it is considered an invasive weed because, for exampe, it has taken over the swamps of Florida.

Malay Names: Ubi keladi, Ubi keladek, Ketela rambat (Java), Ubi jalar (Indonesia).
