Just wondered if anyone has tried to grow their own rice. I did so last summer here in SE Michigan. I knew it wouldn't be practical, just wanted to grow it to see how it did, how it grew, what it would do. Although it was a very cool year here, it actually did produce mature kernels on the 'Short Grain' brown rice I grew. 'Wehani' however, did not quite mature the kernels.

I'm going to try again this year and see if it does a littl better. Last year, I started in the greenhouse in early May, but May was very cool and often cloudy. I'm going to start the rice earlier this year, probably around April 1st, indoors on the seed starting rack.

Has anyone else tried rice? How did it do for you?
