Two years? I'm really very surprised. I started mine from seed as well & by the end of summer/early fall of the first season I had long strap-like leaves & lots of white flowers.

Every spring I end up having to rip up thousands of self-sown seedlings, they grow so darn quickly. (In fact, that's what I'm doing this afternoon.)

How are you growing them? Unlike many herbs, I find they like rich soil with lots of compost, as well as full sunlight to thrive.

As I've learned it from evergreensees, there seems to be different types of garlic chives you can get from seeds; broad leaves and tender leaves without flowers and one with white flowers.

Maybe you got the "tender leaves", which tend to be thinner compared to the broad leave. the broad leaves can be grown iinto "yellow chives" if you shield them from sunlight. In addition, they tend to be low maintenace.

The "yellow chives" are known as Golden Needles. Shielding them from sunlight so they dont' photosynthesize and turn green is called "blanching" in gardeners terms.
