Growing Hawaiian lot leaf in California?

Ok, if you've ever been to a Vietnamese 7 course beef place, you'll get an assortment of beef served several ways. My husband's favorite is the "Beef Wrapped in Hawaiian Lot Leaf". You can find a pic here (http://www.anhhong.com/sevenbeef/), item #5.

I've never seen this leaf in it's raw state, only when it's been cooked with the beef. So I'm not even sure what it is.

1. Anyone know the actual name of this herb, plant?

2. Can I grow this in Southern California?

3. Where can I get a hold of such a plant?

thanks,

lali

The plant you are looking for is probably La Lot, aka Bo La lot (amongst many other names). It is Piper sarmentosum.

Here is a link that might be useful: Piper sarmentosum
