My Tinda Citrullus Vulgaris seeds do not germinate
| | |

| Hi,
I brought some Tinda (Citrullus Vulgaris)seeds and tried to sow it in all types on environments- indoor/outdoor, including starter seeding mix, sand+Peat Moss, just peat moss, in ground but not a single seed sprouted...I planted them about 0.5 cm deep. I have tried this every month since March. Although the seed seem to be healthy they don't seem to want to come out. Any thoughts?
Thanks

| Check the temperature of your soil with a thermometer. It probably needs to be 80?F–90?F. This can be obtained with a heating mat or outside now in a black plastic pot. |

Trim the sides of the seed except the pointed part of the seed . Pointed part has the embryo in it. You may soak the seeds for few hours before sowing. Try this on few seeds. First week of June is good time for planting tropical seeds. Most of them germinate. I have successfully germinated few tropical seeds using heating pad.If you do this keep the soil thoroughly wet. chiman |

| Hi I checked the ideal temp for the plant and it shows 71 degrees. Thanks for all the ideas from Voilet 76 and Chiman. I will try them out. |

| Mine germinated like heck when the weather was warm, but then went downhill straightaway while nearby squash pplants (blue kuri for example) took off like rockets. The tinda didn't get larger, it developed a few sickly leaves and seemingly just evaporated away. It didn't develop a real root system either. Do these plants require extremely hot weather all the time? Is there some other trick to them? Best - exop |
