Growing Daikon in the Midwest

then_then

I'm wondering if anyone has some tips for getting the most out of my daikon. Daikon grown in the midwest tends to come out thin and lacking in flavor, but there must be a way to get daikon to grow to its large size as it is in Japan. The daikon seeds I have are from Japan so it shouldn't have anything to do with the particular type of daikon.

I'm in Iowa, btw. The soil here tends to be quite hard and full of clay. I suspect the soil is the problem, but I don't know enough to be sure. It could also be nutrients.

Thanks!
