Asian Veggies - Names?

I am making my first attempt to grow a vegetable known to me only as "bitter eggplant". I saved seed stock from produce purchased from the local farmer's market last year. The seedlings are tiny at this point. (I did not secure a garden spot until the first week of May) The fruit grows to slightly lager than Jumbo eggs, is green and ripens to yellow-orange or yellow-red, depending on variety. I always find it on the market by mid August to frost.
Is anybody familiar with this plant and if so what is it called other than "bitter eggplant"? |

| Most probably it is the bitter melon. They are supposed to do all good to the human body in producing natural insulin. Besides it is a favorite vegetable for most of the people familiar with the tropical vegetables. It is an annual. Unless the seeds you collected from the market produce had a hard brown color to them they will not sprout. I have them every year in my garden. I collect the first 10 fruits for my seeds and then the rest go into my kitchen...Indu |
