How do you guys deal with bugs eating the leaves of the veggie? My eggplants, peppers, even squash have holes on lots of the leaves. What do you guys do to prevent this? or is there no prevention and just deal with it. Thanks!

Paun

Permethrin and sevin work quite well for me. Follow the recommended spray schedule (and waiting period before harvest) and wash produce thoroughly before eating or storing.

Where can I get Permethrin and sevin? I don't remember seeing that at depot or lowes.

Both permethrin (one example brand is Bonide Eight Garden & Home Insect Control Spray) and Carbaryl (one example brand is Sevin) are 2 of the more common insecticides, and should be available at most garden centers or check www.froogle.com. Though not "organic", they are safer than some of the "certified organic" ones. Both products control most bugs, but there are a few that one works better than the other. For example, permethrin doesn't work on certain grasshoppers, if fact, it seems to attract them. However, sevin keeps them away. While permethrin works much better on ants than does sevin, which is why permethrin is also often sold as an ant killer. Permethrin is also sold as a mosquito repellent.
