Good results with heat tolerant bok choy

| It's great having bok choy hold up so long into the summer. Sowed Canton short and Summer Boy into trays early May. I did not have the beds ready yet and sometimes I prefer to start in trays and transplant. It eliminates thinning. Transplanted to soil Memorial day. Wheather started heating up second week of July and has been 87-93 F. since. Just yesterday some of the choy is starting to show signs of budding. Good luck with some heat tolerant Yu choy Vts003 (AgroHaitai) and Komatsuna hybrid Kojisan (Evergreen) Sowed direct 4 wks ago. The Yu choy has already bolted and we are eating it as well as the Kojisan. It may not be ideal conditions but it is nice to have fresh greens. Nice break from all the Zukes and green beans.

| Growing bok choi, sorry I don't know cultivar, and now end of July in WI it still has not bolted. I am delighted, but it seems to be getting bitter, like lettuce does when it bolts. Is this to be expected as it ages, or is this just a mature characteristic? It is getting a realy mustard green type edge to the flavor. Any input is appreciated. |

skeip - That could be a lack of water or ( more probably ) it is getting to warm for it. If you grow bok choi in the fall it should taste less bitter. |
