Yard-long bean trouble

I'm having a couple of problems with yard-long beans I planted.

(1) They seem to be major aphid traps, just covered with them. The purple pod snap beans growing right next to them are relatively uninfested. The vines are growing like crazy though, so for now I'm just blasting the aphids ocasionally with the hose.

(2) Despite huge growth -- about 8 feet and now cascading down -- that's all I'm getting, just the growth, no sign whatever of flowers, nor of course beans.
I wondered if this may be too much nitrogen in the soil, but beans growing on each side in same soil (Purple Pod and Ky Wonder) are bearing very nicely.

I'm in Los Angeles, very warm days but nights almost always down in lower 60's.

Thoughts on either of these things?

Thanks, Gardenwheels

RE: Yard-long bean trouble

Be patient. It's not worth worry or frustration comparing them to other varieties of beans. Yard long bean plants tend to take longer before you see any bean production at all, then they'll go crazy as long as the weather doesn't get too cold.

Report back in a couple of weeks to tell us how they're doing...
