Sawasdee krub I found some very yummy garlic in the Thai border town of Mai Sai when I asked where they come from all they could tell me was Burma they are about the size a very large marble and just a round ball not into cloves does anybody know anything about it? I tried to bring some back but of course had to give it up at LA customs Thanks so much my friends.

Are these reddish coloured?

Culd be they are the second year of the garlic from the top bulbs. This happens if the garlic goes to these little tiny cloves on the flower top and then replants itself. The first year they are small and round undivided heads.

I've read that Northern Thai garlic is unusually flavorful and spicy and well known in Thailand. I'd like to get hold of some starts myself. Maybe a strong tasting garlic like "metechi" would be an ok substitute?

Yes for sure it has a nice flavor but not to strong I'm going back to Thailand tomorrow morning so I'll check and see if I can find them unfortunally not going up North to Mai Sai but i'll keep a eye out for them
