Lantana Allelopathy?
I just became a new Gardenweb member to ask a question about damage to dwarf azaleas. Sorry, I don't know the species. The flower is light red.
I have two plantings of the same species, planted in the same compost-rich medium. Both are in part sun, part shade. There could not be a more drastic difference in their appearance or condition and I am at a loss to explain that. The main difference that I can tell between their situations is that the poor looking ones are planted close to yellow lantana which I have just removed and am removing the soil as close to the azaleas as possible. My question is, does yellow lantana put out a chemical that could harm azalea? If it does, I will replace the soil the azaleas are in with compost made from tree leaves and garden dirt. The plants are still small enough to handle easily.
If I am unable to save them, I will clone more and replace them but I want to know what their problem is first.
