Adjust pH for Azaleas

I have two azaleas in separate planters and they both need to have their pH adjusted per the soil pH kit I used.
#1 is in a 10" pot and the pH is 7.5. Plant has very yellowing leaves and is blooming.
#2 is in a 24" X 36" planter, has less yellowing and pH is 6.5. The test kit recommends pH of 4.0-6.0.
I don't know the best way to proceed. I have a big bag of Ironite which is in granular form. The instructions are for large applications, i.e., 5 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. Is it possible to use this stuff? How would I determine how much. It would be very difficult to work this into the potted plant's soil, maybe possible in the planter. Or, could I dilute it in water and water the soil?
Or, should I go buy something else entirely?
TIA, Cheryl
