Azalea snow damage

How should I rejuvenate old azaleas which were planted too close to the house and have been quite flattened by snow falling from the roof over the years? At this point, many of the heavy branches are approaching horizontal, while newer growth is more vertical, resulting in a fairly unattractive shape. I've seen them bloom for two springs now, and the bloom is quite strong. Should I perform a heavy pruning and then protect from snow damage in the future? These look too mature to think about moving.

How much should I cut them back? Can they be pruned now, when I'm pruning apple trees (Feb 1st)? Thanks!
