A couple of azalea questions

Many of my smallest azalea suffered from our weird weather this year. First it was too warm in December and January then it was cold with ice and sleet. Then the pattern was repeated. Anyway I have crispy brown leaves on some of my newer plants. I don't know if I should prune all those parts off or wait and see if they get new leaves.

My other question is about moving rooted branches from my big azaleas. There are lots of them. Some have been cut from the mother plant. Some are still attached. I moved one last year that was well rooted and I kept it watered but it died. When should I try again and what will help me be more successful?
