You should prune any stuff you are sure is dead off. I am waiting since I am an optimist, but I probably shouldn't.

I would wait a year after cutting off the branch to the original plant. Then you can remove buds and some top to make the top in balance with bottom if you are having trouble getting the plants to make the transition. Remember they have fine shallow roots. Also, before transplanting, root prune the area that you are going to dig up several weeks or months before digging so they will form a dense root ball. You must keep moist, but they MUST have good drainage. Wet roots kill more plants than drought. Mulch good and do not let dry out completely.
