The plants were developed for Alabama and Mississippi. They won't bloom, at least not very much, in full shade. Encore Azalea® perform best in sun to partial shade, preferably afternoon partial shade. They will tolerate full sunlight, but care must be taken to prevent them from exposure to drought or other related stress conditions. Azaleas need sunshine to set flower buds. Most will do well in partial shade.

Mblossom, I live in florida and have a very high and dense pine canopy and I dont think theres very many "solid shade" places anywhere in Florida. People that don't garden in florida have a hard time understanding the intensity of the sunlight here. If it says partial shade in any other state you can probably get away with a full shade in Florida. I have seen azaleas locally here in Melbourne growing and flowering beautifully in both deep shade and fairly intense sun. Azaleas are pretty resilient once they are in the ground and as long as the plant doesnt dry out you should be fine. In florida the rules dont always apply so ya kinda have to experiment ALOT more than people in other states. Plus ive found that the soil is probably the most important key to success with azaleas in Florida. Pine fines, pine fines, pine fines. They love them. I have yet to find a more neccessary amendment for Florida's sandy soil. Lots of organic matter.
