Leafy & hardy rhododenrons?

Beautiful blossoms are very nice, but since there are very many months when what you see with a rhody is structure and foliage, I tend to like lushly-foliar varieties. I was out on the Canadian Pacific coast a few months back, and (perhaps because they get a rainy, rather than a cold, winter there) I came across a beautiful example of an extremely foliar rhododendron in someone's yard. It stood between four and five feet high, nearly as wide, and had been pruned for a kind of domed top.

I'd love to find a variety like that which could handle our Zone 6a winters, and direct sun for half the day. Something that tends to grow a sturdy structure (branches that are stout enough), because we get snow. But replete with leaves.

Any suggestions? A link to a photo would be nice... but if you don't have that, please just name a variety and I'll look it up on the Web. Thanks.

Joel
