When to prune rhododendron

I have a rhododendron that has a branch lying on the ground. I would like to cut off the branch to make it look nicer. When would be the best time to do this?

The best time to prune without sacrificing blooms is immediately after the flowers fade.

If you are past a hard freeze in your area and don't mind losing the flower buds on this particular stem, you could prune it now to balance the shape.
