I have a Windbeam purchased some 40 years ago which I dearly love. It is about 8 feet tall in a nice informal shape. One branch has layered and the flowers on this branch are almost white compared to the soft pink on the rest of the shrub. I have a number of other rhodies that have layered and they behave normally. Any thoughts?

RE: Windbeam

It is normal for Windbeam to open a very pale pink and then fade to white. If the layered branch started blooming earlier, it would become white sooner. If they started blooming at the same time and are different colors, then the layered branch is a sport. That does happen and sometimes will revert back in a season or two.

RE: Windbeam

It is a sport since it blooms at the same time. This has been going on for 2-3 years.
