Michele, were these in the outdoor stock and not inside with the blooming plants?

If they were outside and you had flower damage while in your garage, they could have been grown in a climate warmer than yours, or grown in a covered area. If you want to preserve the flowers, you should wait until danger of your last frost has passed.

If they really are hardy azaleas, nursery stock, they can be planted any time the ground is not frozen. Loosen the rootballs and be careful not to plant any deeper than they are growing in their containers.

They were outside when I bought them. I think what happened is the flowers that had already opened froze but the buds that were not open were fine. I don't really know when the last frost usually is. I looked up something online and in the history there was one year when there were below freezing temps in June.
