How to make rhody babies?

I have an old rhody that needs to be pruned to give it a better shape and to fit its place in the landscape. I plan on doing it after the current blooms fade. Will I be able to salvage some cuttings from what I cut off? If so, how?

Most rhododendrons - some are much easier than others - can be propagated from cuttings, but not from spring prunings. You need to use cuttings from the current year's growth when it has somewhat hardened but remains supple. Depending on climate and particular rhododendron variety this is usually in late summer to late fall.

More detailed informationcan be found in any number of books and no doubt on line as well.
