Can my azaleas be saved?

gms

Last year I planted 4 azaleas (small--1 gallon plants) on the southside of my house. They get mostly afternoon sun and are in a well-drained clay soil. We had drought conditions last year and I did my best to keep them watered.

Last month, their leaves started to turn from red to green and their buds formed. Two of the plants bloomed, but with only a few flowers. I thought they needed fertilizer, so I gave them some of the Miracle Grow Azalea fetilizer. Being a garden newbie, I didn't think to test the pH of the soil, which I'm afraid was a fatal mistake for them. A couple of days later, three of the plants' leaves turned brown and crispy. The blooms have all died. One plant seems to be making it, although it is now longer flowering.

Is there any way I can save my plants? I've tried doing some research on the net, but haven't been able to find anything. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Geneen
