Azalea buds eaten by birds

Hi everybody!

I grow many azaleas since more than 10 years and I was wondering why many flower buds desapeared each winter... I just realized a few years ago that ruffed grouses love to eat them... And now that wild turkeys are established in our region, they eat them too... We have problems with deer too and I spay Plantskyd eacht autumn but it is not effective against birds. We are thinking about mecanical protection with snow fences but it is always difficult to protect large and tall shrubs.

Does anybody know if there is some effective bird reppellants that can be applied in fall?
