pruning new azaleas?

Hi - new gardener here - I planted azaleas that I bought at a garden center 3 for $30. They looked lovely while in bloom, but I can see that, when not blooming, they are leggy sticks with a couple of leaves at each tip.

I have another azalea that I bought from a different nursery for $25 for one. It is small and dense, and is still covered in leaves despite having shed many of its blooms. Perhaps a different variety?

My question is, should I trim the leggy ones down, if I do will they come back leafier for next year? I don't want trim them if it will make them shrimpy and still leggy, if that's their style. If the best thing to do is just to leave them, I can do that and deal with the legginess if I must, when they are not in bloom.

Thanks!
