Azalea & Rhododendron

Planting Azalea from florist

I received a beautiful azalea for Mother's day delivered by a florist. I live in "azalea country" where azaleas are planted everywhere. My concern is, will a florist azalea work in an outdoor setting or will this have to be an inside plant? I seem to recall hearing that the ones from the florist are different from the ones sold at nurseries. Is this correct?
