Newbie needs advice in choosing and planting azaleas (pics)

Just as the subject states - I have an area on the rear of my house (North facing) that I'd like to fill in with some azaleas! Problem being, I've never really planted anything before and have no idea where to start.

I do know this:

I just pulled up some Wheeler's Dwarf Pittosporum from the area I'd like to plant the azaleas. I pruned the Pittosporum way too short and killed it.

The area is slightly down-sloping from the foundation and receives morning sun only...as you can see from the pics, the area is shaded most of the day by the overhang of the roof.

Soil is clay based and slightly acidic. I live in the Montgomery, AL area.

My wife and I need something that is going to be bushy enough to hide the foundation yet not tall enough to obstruct the windows (about 3'). We were looking at the encore azaleas, but I'm thinking they might not get enough sun in this location

Please let me know where to start, as I'd be happy to field any questions! Also, I'm a huge fan of before and after pics so here are some 'befores'
