Azalea & Rhododendron

Rhododendron Species

I just spent a few days in NY and everyone there has this type of Rhododendron in their yard. I would like to know what type it is. It is very tree-like and the largest one I saw topped out at about 10 feet tall.

It is a hybrid rhododendron. It is most likely English Roseum or Roseum Elegans.

They both are typically 6' tall when 10 years old.

Probably Roseum Elegans. They are both very good and very popular.

It could be Scintillation instead since it appears more pink than roseum.

Thanks for the help. I would really like to get one but I know there are so many different types. I really like the ones that look more like trees than shrubs.

Scintillation sun burns badly in full sun. Also it has beautiful shinny leaves. And, third, it only gets 4' tall in 10 years and I have never seen it get up to 10' tall even in 40 years.
