It should be fine. Make sure it has a new layer of mulch to help keep the roots cool over the hot (and often dry) summer!

Esh is right on. You should be in great shape. Cutting out dead branches opens up the inside of the plant for better air circulation and less disease. The important thing is that it is getting some sun. Plants in severe shade don't respond well to severe pruning.

Pruning usually stimulates growth, so monitor the plants health for a while. If you get a drought condition you may see some wilting. If the plant is wilted in the heat of the day, don't worry, but if it is wilted in the morning, then it needs watering. The mulch is essential to keeping the roots cool and conserving moisture. If you see some chlorosis (yellowing of leaves between green veins) then a shot of HollyTone fertilizer at half the rate on the package may be a good idea if before mid summer.
