Assassinated Azalea and Camellia!

HELP!

Planted my Azalea this spring - 'was' a sapling, however my father came over to mow the garden one day and mowed over it! There is about an inch of split 'trunk'left...not sure can even be classed as a trunk, with one damaged leaf left on it.

Question is, can it survive this kind of brutal trimming?! I like in the UK and we can have quite frosty winters where I live, wet spring times andmild/hot summers does it have a chance?

Have had the same problem with my sapling Camellia, with what was flowering whiped out but there is still a 'stalk' prominently showing...survival rating out of 10 please?...He whiped out the Pyracantha too but that has come back like crazy from nothing left!

They may come back, but if they were grafted plants, the plant that comes back may be from the rootstock and not what you originally planted. Perhaps you can put up a stake to mark them to protect them in the future. Also, mulch. They need a good mulch to protect them from weeds, and to keep the roots cool and moist.
