You'd want to follow the same guidelines for soil - Both types prefer well-drained, humus-y, acidic soil. Most deciduous azaleas prefer more sun for best bloom and a little fuller appearance. In too much shade, they will flower less and are more vulnerable to powdery mildew (something I have to be careful of here in my cloudy coastal climate).
