Liquid rhody fertilizers are more of a problem than a help. They are high in nitrogen and will give you nice green leaves and no flowers. A good rhody fertilizer has organic nitrogen like HollyTone. I wouldn't fertilize now. If you think you must fertilize only fertilize in the spring and only fertilze once around bloom time and with half the amount recommended on the package. To bloom they need partial sun. They form buds now for next years flowers. Don't prune more than a couple weeks after they bloom.

'Northern Starburst' is a form of PJM which was deliberately produced with more than the usual number of chromosomes. The problem may well have been solved by now, but the first couple of tissue cultured generations of Northern Starburst were notorious for being extremely poor bloomers even though they grew with great vigor otherwise.

This variety continues to be sold as one that will bloom heavily even in dense shade, but I have serious doubts about this claim. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has had success with this variety as I have never heard a positive evaluation from an actual gardener.

I did have it in shade, but I moved it because I thought the shaded area was the problem.
I never used fertilizer until this past 2 springs.
It was a box fertilizer that was specifically for rhododendrons and azaleas and followed the instructions.
It is getting new leaves now but no flower buds are forming.

I have other rhoddies and all of them are now forming flower buds.

I cut off a small branch of it early this spring and have planted it in another location.
It is doing well and I am going to leave it there for a few years to see if produces blooms.

Any other information would be appreciated.
