new azaleas - would like a bit of advice

Hi. Just planted about 30 "Vivid" azaleas to border my slate sidewalk. They look great. I have a concern about one section that is right in front of my house. When digging the holes I found that a few of them had a white looking soil - presumably a fill dirt from when the house was built. I even saw what looked a bit like clay. I had ammended all the beds with a good soil prior to planting, however, this white and clay looking stuff was down deep. Is there reason to be concerned about how the azaleas will fare in that area? I backfilled the planting hole with good dark dirt and watered well. I also mulched well. Should I use a root starting fertilizer for a while to help them get going?

I chose azaleas for my walkway boarder because it is mostly shade and much of it is under oaks. The form of this particular azalea is nice too - compact and round. I want to do all I can to keep them healthy.

Thanks.
