Rhododendron not producing buds

Early last summer '09 I cut my rhododendron way back because it had been damaged during the winter. It started to grow new leaves right away and this summer, it grew more new leaves but no buds for next year. Is this a normal course of events or should I worry.

When you cut a rhody or other woody "way back," it often requires a year or more to get back to a normal flowering cycle.
