I have no idea what the area you are planting is like, but be forewarned that azaleas have shallow roots and do not like competition from other plants. Azaleas need well drained acidic soil. The normal procedure before planting or transplanting an azalea is to clear the area of intruding roots. Then amend the soil with something like bark soil conditioner that is acidic and gives good drainage. Then, after planting or transplanting an azalea, mulch the plant well and be sure to water if there are dry conditions but don't overwater, that is worse than letting it get dry.

If the area is low or clay, it is best to use a raised bed to assure good drainage.
