amount of pruning for azeleas

Hello Everyone,

I have six large azeleas in a bed,recently I removed some other plants and made room for more azeleas. The larger azeleas are towering over the smaller ones.

After blooming next summer....how far back can the larger ones be pruned back??

In order for different sizes to "match-up" they will have to be pruned by half or more! Would this be too extreme?

No, not too extreme. Azaleas have dormant growth buds all along their stems under the bark which will sprout from just below any pruning cut you make. For best results and to avoid a year with no flowers, prune immediately after blooming.
