My azaleas are going down the tubes

Something seems to be wrong with my azaleas and I'm not sure what. Can anyone help with what's wrong with them and how to fix them. Here are pictures. I'm guessing the discoloration could be chlorosis??? but what about what's going on on the back side of the leaves.

Azalea lace bugs have been sucking the life out of them.

I haven't had to deal with them here, possibly our summers too cool but they can commonly show up in warmer areas, particularly on those azaleas planted in more sun than shade.

skooksaunt,
I had a similar problem. It simply got resolve by spraying neem oil or orticultural oil on them.
They will bounce back, but you will have to wait.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Looking at the pics, do you think these plants are a lost cause at this point?

Be sure to apply the neem or horticultural oil to the UNDERSIDES of the foliage where those darned little things live.

As to whether your azaleas will 'bounce back', or not....I wouldn't bet money either way on it. I have certainly seen them recover wonderfully from lace bugs, but this is the worst infestation that I have ever seen! (Congratulations, lol!)

If these plants were in my yard, I would absolutely get after them with some treatments (be sure to read and follow all directions to a T) just to see! You will officially be a horticultural miracle worker if successful. Those things happen all the time.
