They look OK. They have shallow roots so they are suffering from competition from other plants that are planted too close to them. You can help them along by cutting the competing plants back and applying 2 to 3" of mulch (oak leaves, pine needles, pine bark, etc.)

They also look like they are on the edge of not getting enough iron. That is usually caused by soil that is not acidic enough. You can acidify the soil with sulfur powder or iron sulfate. Do NOT use aluminum sulfate. It is toxic to rhododendrons.

Since they have been pruned repeatedly, they probably won't bloom next year. They form their flower buds during the summer so if you prune after early summer you are removing the flower buds.

If they are getting too much shade, cut some of the branches creating the shade. They will fill out if they are given enough sun.
