Azalea & Rhododendron

Need to hard prune Azaleas now

I have very very old and how hugh azaleas approximately 6-7 foot tall growing over the top of windows and one side is preventing grass from being watered.
I have previously cut the two bushes down to the ground in front of house a couple years ago and never got around to doing the others. since we have mild winters (with the exception of this past winter freezes in Febr) I am hoping that I can still cut them back at this early september.
Any suggestions.

Sure you can...they don't respond (often) well to being cut back to really old wood. Obviously if you prune now, expect no flowers next year for sure.
