Do I have root rot?

Hi! I'm new to the azalea world. I just planted my first two less then a month ago and I'm afraid I may have root rot. I noticed two to three weeks ago the edges of the leaves where turning brown. I thought I had been over watering so I backed off. During this time new buds appeared and opened. Last week I applied Holly tone and just a few days after I noticed the leaves where turning all brown and some where curling. I thought maybe I had applied too much Holly tone and caused some fertilizer burn. However, I noticed about two days ago one of the branches was withering and dying. Aside from one very territorial brown spider the azaleas are bug free. What has me confused is that on both shrubs there are new growth and buds are developing and opening. However I noticed this morning on the larger shrub it looks like a new bud has died. Do I have root rot? If so what is the best way to treat it?
