Help for crunchy azalea

I bought a deciduous azalea at a plant sale a week ago, and it appears I didn't water it enough before getting to plant it this weekend. The leaves on the top half, maybe 2/3 of the plant are VERY crispy! I planted it this weekend following the instructions on various sites.....wide not too deep, pine mulch, a good watering, etc. I also read that it's not good to prune azaleas after the summer months as it will keep the plant from flowering the following spring and puts the the plant more vulnerable to upcoming lower temperatures. However.....I'm thinking it might be worth those risks vs. the plant using its energy to keep these seemingly unrevivable portions alive?? I didn't think to write down the name of the azalea (I know the flowers are bright orange) but can post that tomorrow if that makes a differene. ADVICE?? Thanks so much for any and all help!!
